Often, I “retreat” engaging in a personal and professional time of reflection. It’s always been an important ritual for me and is respected by those in my circle – family, friends, colleagues, and clients.
This year’s retreat felt particularly important coming one year into the pandemic. Early on – in the spring of 2020 – I had a lot of conversations about this unique time that allowed space for me to embark on a sacred journey. It was a time – when I and so many others – had an opportunity to step back and assess and think and rest and reflect.

That journey continues – with some greater clarity – but mostly with additional questions. What do I want to do with my energy and focus? What brings me delight and joy and how do I weave those people, activities, and experiences into my whole life? How do I take really good care of my self, so I can be the best version of my self?
A retreat is a great thing, but doesn’t it signal stepping back? Isn’t that the literal definition of the word? Perhaps, starting this year, I will change my reflection time to an “advance” which gives me the opportunity to move forward in a purposeful way and answer some of the questions I am asking myself.
